Programs

LFA pursues its mission through three core strategies: advancing the science and medicine of lupus; creating awareness of the disease and advocating on behalf of all people with lupus; and supporting people with lupus and their professional health care providers. LFA’s national research program is dedicated to bringing down the barriers that have obstructed basic biomedical, clinical, epidemiological, behavioral, and translational research for decades. LFA addresses the barriers by funding research grants to address issues of importance for people with lupus, by stimulating federal research funding for lupus, and by convening stakeholders to collaborate on projects that advance the science and medicine of lupus. LFA works to increase public awareness and knowledge of lupus prevention, diagnosis, and treatment by distributing PSAs to all media outlets; disseminating education materials to the general public; and recently by launching a social media outreach program and stimulating congressional support for a national public awareness campaign. LFA provides information and education through its national network of affiliated chapters, offices and community support groups, including distribution of the organization’s magazine, Lupus Now™, a website, a network of nurse health educators, peer-reviewed literature and brochures, educational programs for patients, CME programs for physicians, support group program, educational seminars and medical conferences.
