Programs

              

DAREF supports both complementary and traditional research by providing grants for 12 new studies in 2007. DAREF’s education programs include providing free diabetes management booklets, online access to its Diabetes Educator for individual consultation, and the annual Diabetes University conference which highlights alternative treatments for diabetes. DAREF’s annual children’s scholarship program provides funding for children to attend 49 diabetes camps in 44 states that combine activities with nutritional and lifestyle education. Since 1990, DAREF has consistently supported programs for American Indians who suffer the highest rate of type 2 diabetes in the world. DAREF’s international program sends medical supplies to countries where resources are extremely limited. Some ($1,102,985 or 60%) of DAREF’s program expenses represents the value of donated goods also recognized in its financial statements as a source of revenue. Some ($72,608 or 4%) of DAREF’s program activities are carried out in conjunction with fund raising appeals.

DAREF incurred joint costs of $123,724 for informational materials and activities that included fund raising materials. Of those costs $72,608 was allocated to program expenses, $51,116 was allocated to fund raising expenses, and $ was allocated to administrative expenses.
