Programs

              

DAREF supports both complementary and traditional research by providing grants for 12 new studies in 2009. DAREF’s education programs include providing free diabetes management booklets, online access to its Diabetes Educator for individual consultation, and the annual Diabetes University conference which highlights alternative treatments for diabetes. DAREF’s annual children’s scholarship program provides funding for children to attend 55 diabetes camps in 40 states that combine activities with nutritional and lifestyle education. DAREF’s international program sends medical supplies to countries where resources are extremely limited. Most ($1,438,594 or 70%) of DAREF’s program expense represents the value of donated goods also recognized in its financial statements as a source of revenue.
