Advocates for Youth (Advocates) does not meet the following 2 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Standard 6: Board Policy on Effectiveness - Have a board policy of assessing, no less than every two years, the organization's performance and effectiveness and of determining future actions required to achieve its mission.

Advocates does not meet this Standard because:

  • Its effectiveness assessment policy does not specify that this assessment will take place at least once every two years.

Standard 7: Board Approval of Written Report on Effectiveness - Submit to the organization's governing body, for its approval, a written report that outlines the results of the aforementioned performance and effectiveness assessment and recommendations for future actions.

Advocates does not meet this Standard because:

  • The organization’s effectiveness assessment did not take place within the past two years. The last assessment was completed April 1, 2009.
Advocates meets the remaining 18 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Programs

              

Advocates strives to help young people make safe and responsible decisions about their sexual and reproductive health by informing, educating, and training youth-serving professionals, parents, policymakers, and media, as well as young people themselves, on issues such as healthy adolescent development; teen pregnancy and HIV prevention; adolescent contraceptive access; science-based, sex education; parent-child communication; redressing health disparities among youth of color; etc. Through its adolescent teen pregnancy prevention initiative, the organization seeks to strengthen the capacity of state teen pregnancy organizations with a focus on reaching youth most at-risk of teen pregnancy and HIV/STIS. Advocates reports that through its international programs, it provides information, training, and technical assistance to about 800 youth serving entities and activists around the world.
