Programs

WWF works to reverse the degradation of our planet's natural environment and build a future in which human needs are met in harmony with nature. The organization aims to recognize the relevance of human numbers, poverty and consumption patterns in meeting these goals. The organization hopes that by 2020 WWF will conserve 19 of the world's natural places and change global markets to protect the future of nature. The charity reports that through a study involving a team of scientists, biologists and policy experts, the organization determined ways to make a difference in preserving the diversity of nature by identifying those places that are of greatest significance. WWF Global 200 is a blueprint program for identifying the areas of abundant and representative diversity around the world including places that the charity believes must be saved in the next 50 years. WWF has refined its focus to 19 places that are, in the organization’s opinion, of the highest priority, based on the wealth and diversity of life they support, the destructive challenges they face, and WWF’s ability to impact them within the next decade. These places include tropical rain forests, freshwater systems, varied coral reefs, deserts, and fishing grounds. Some ($12,638,376 or 7%) of WWF's program activities are carried out in conjunction with fund raising appeals.

For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010, WWF's program expenses were:

Conservation field and policy programs 129,238,725
Public education 57,531,450
Total Program Expenses: $186,770,175
