Evaluation Conclusions

              

Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA) does not meet the following Standard for Charity Accountability.

Standard 4: Compensated Board Members - Not more than one or 10% (whichever is greater) directly or indirectly compensated person(s) serving as voting member(s) of the board. Compensated members shall not serve as the board's chair or treasurer.

SUWA does not meet this Standard because:

  • Two members out of the 12 member board of directors (17%) are compensated.  In addition, one of the members is a directly compensated who also serves as the board chair.  The second board member is indirectly compensated as the spouse of a paid staff member.”

Programs

              

SUWA works to promote local and national recognition of the Colorado Plateau’s character through research and public education. The organization supports both administrative and legislative initiatives to permanently protect the region’s wild places within the National Park and National Wilderness Preservation Systems or by other protective designations where appropriate. SUWA works to support initiatives on both local and national levels, and provides leadership within the conservation movement through advocacy for wilderness preservation.
