Programs

FoE works toward the sustainable and fair use of the Earth’s resources. The organization's work focuses on four key areas: climate and energy, economic policy, food and technology, and oceans. FoE seeks effective regulation of greenhouse gasses, fights solutions like nuclear power and corn ethanol biofuels, and promotes the use of new green technologies like plug-in electric hybrid vehicles. FoE's campaigns inform consumers about chemical and biotechnological safety issues in consumer products. The organization pushes for stringent regulation of new technologies, including gene patenting, synthetic biology, nanotechnology, and genetically engineered meat. FoE's oceans campaigns protect marine ecosystems and the people who live and work near them. It conducts efforts to reduce environmental harm from oceangoing vessels by protecting coastal areas from raw sewage discharges, reducing polluting airborne emissions, and limiting ships' speeds to prevent whale strikes.

For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010, FoE's program expenses were:

Domestic 1,209,355
International 928,415
