Programs

SFCLC strives to teach people how to join together in an effective grassroots voice to win concrete, long lasting improvements for children at both local and state levels. The organization provides parents and others with tools to achieve improvements for children by convincing elected officials and voters to invest in and reform children’s programs. SFCLC provides advocacy and educational efforts for children and supports increased funding for schools, more and better after-school programs, and improved early childhood education. The organization conducted outreach efforts which included one-on-one conversations in over 40 communities to gauge support for five research-backed strategies to improve student achievement as well as telephone and on-line surveys focused on determining the most promising education reforms. The organization's annual Beat the Odds scholarship awards three Oregon students with laptop computers and scholarship assistance. Massachusetts staff played a key role in the Working Group on Educator Excellence that advocated for the prioritization of teaching quality policy improvements in Massachusetts’s Race to the Top application. SFCLC also mobilized education supporters in over 100 communities in support of the Education Reform Act of 2009. This legislation protected school funding, provided districts and superintendents with new tools to innovate and turn around failing schools, and gave students in the lowest-performing 10% of districts greater access to charter school programs.

For the year ended December 31, 2009, SFCLC's program expenses were:

Program services 4,420,282
Total Program Expenses: $4,420,282
