Programs

PTC undertakes five programs to further its mission. Through research and public education, the organization records and analyzes the primetime television programming of all the major networks. Instances of sex, violence, profanity, illegal conduct, etc. are logged into a database. The data is made available to the public free of charge on the company website in order to allow parents and families the ability to make more informed media consumption choices. The organization also uses all program content data for reports on the issue of age-inappropriate entertainment for children and to educate the public on such matters. Through PTC’s grassroots membership network, the organization advocates for stronger enforcement of existing broadcast decency rules. The organization works closely with major television advertisers in an attempt to ensure advertiser accountability by convincing advertisers to sponsor more family-friendly content on television. PTC advocates the ability for consumers to pick and choose and pay for only the cable networks and cable/satellite that the subscriber wants. Through PTC’s Seal of Approval program, the organization publicly praises good family-quality entertainment products so families are more aware of good choices available to them. Some ($360,854 or 14%) of PTC's program activities are carried out in conjunction with fund raising appeals.

For the year ended December 31, 2009, PTC's program expenses were:

Research and publications 1,356,397
