LWVEF does not meet this Standard because:

  • According to the its audited financial statements for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010, the organization spent $1,422,552 or 63% of its total expenses ($2,250,439) on program service activities.

Programs

              

LWVEF conducts activities to engage citizens in the democratic process. The organization sponsors nonpartisan candidate debates at the state and local levels, provides free nonpartisan voter guides (both printed and online), registers citizens to vote, and sponsors free public forums on issues of community interest. Other activities include registering high school seniors to vote, working to protect voting rights, aiming to improve election administration, training pollworkers, encouraging transparency in government, working with the U.S. Census to ensure that everyone is counted, and educating the public on issues such as the federal role in education, government privatization, and the importance of an independent judiciary.
