Programs

DS offers opportunities for young people to participate in causes they care about. According to the organization, three core principles guide these programs: they never require money, an adult, or a car. DS's cause of the month program focuses on a different problem (youth homelessness, supporting our troops, etc.) and issues a call to action on a monthly basis. By texting "DoSomething" to 30644, kids receive a volunteer opportunity in their zip code twice a month. DS also provides $500 grants directly to kids that are at least 14 years old and have a terrific idea to change something in their community. There are DoSomething Clubs in over 1,000 schools. Additionally, the organization's website has a library of over 15,000 kid-lead projects, thousands of action guides to help kids get started, and news on the causes of the day. DS also hosts boot camps six times a year, during which the organization hosts a day of training for children on budgeting, succession planning, volunteer recruitment strategies, etc.

For the year ended December 31, 2008, DS's program expenses were:

Programs 7,238,083
Total Program Expenses: $7,238,083
