Evaluation Conclusions

              

CentroNia does not meet the following 3 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Standard 6: Board Policy on Effectiveness - Have a board policy of assessing, no less than every two years, the organization's performance and effectiveness and of determining future actions required to achieve its mission.

CentroNia does not meet this Standard because:

  • The board of directors does not have a written policy stating that, at least every two years, an appraisal be done assessing the organization’s performance and effectiveness and determining future actions required to achieve its mission.

Standard 7: Board Approval of Written Report on Effectiveness - Submit to the organization's governing body, for its approval, a written report that outlines the results of the aforementioned performance and effectiveness assessment and recommendations for future actions.

CentroNia does not meet this Standard because:

  • It has not completed a written effectiveness assessment in the past two years.

Standard 16: Annual Report - Have an annual report available to all, on request, that includes: (a) the organization's mission statement, (b) a summary of the past year's program service accomplishments, (c) a roster of the officers and members of the board of directors, (d) financial information that includes (i) total income in the past fiscal year, (ii) expenses in the same program, fund raising and administrative categories as in the financial statements, and (iii) ending net assets.

CentroNia does not meet this Standard because its 2010 annual report did not include:

  • The organization’s mission statement.
  • Total income.
  • Total end of year net assets.

In addition, the financial information in the 2010 annual report was based on 2009 figures.

CentroNia meets the remaining 17 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Programs

              

CentroNía reports providing educational programs, professional development, and family support services to the community. Its programs center around four interconnected areas to ensure the organization's mission reaches the families served. The four program areas are: early childhood education, community education, DC Bilingual Public Charter School and CentroNía Institute. The accredited early childhood education program strives to build responsive relationships between children, families and instructors at an early age. The community education program engages children, youth and adults in the community through youth leadership programs, tutoring programs, and before and after school programs. DC Bilingual Public Charter School is a learning community for pre-K through fifth grade that aims to ensure high academic achievement for all students in both English and Spanish. The CentroNía Institute serves as a resource that supports the professional development of teachers and instructs best practices for working with bilingual, multicultural communities.
