Evaluation Conclusions

BIB does not meet the following Standard for Charity Accountability.

Standard 3: Frequency and Attendance of Board Meetings - An organization shall have a minimum of three evenly spaced meetings per year of the full governing body with a majority in attendance, with face-to-face participation. A conference call of the full board can substitute for one of the three meetings of the governing body. For all meetings, alternative modes of participation are acceptable for those with physical disabilities.

BIB does not meet this Standard because:

  • No face to face meeting of the full governing board was held in the past fiscal year.
BIB meets the remaining 19 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Programs

The BIB program is typically started up by a parent, teacher, nurse, counselor, community advocate or corporate supporter in a local school. Once the program has been adopted by a school, BIB will partner with a nearby grocery store to provide food at a discounted rate and to provide the program framework for implementation. The organization utilizes volunteers to manage the weekly logistics of getting the food from the grocery store to the school or facility where the backpacks will be loaded with food for distribution. It donates all program backpacks raised through national partnerships and funding and also connects adopters across the country so they can share ideas and successes as well as learn how to run their own BIB program. The backpacks include ready-to-eat food items such as fruit roll ups, juice boxes, instant noodles, peanut butter, mac & cheese, cereal, pop tarts, etc.

For the six month period ended June 30, 2010, BIB's program expenses were:

Program services 1,442,630
Total Program Expenses: $1,442,630
