Balanced Mind Foundation (BMF) does not meet the following Standard for Charity Accountability.

Standard 7: Board Approval of Written Report on Effectiveness - Submit to the organization's governing body, for its approval, a written report that outlines the results of the aforementioned performance and effectiveness assessment and recommendations for future actions.

BMF does not meet this Standard because:

  • It did not produce a written report outlining the results of its most recent effectiveness assessment.
BMF meets the remaining 19 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Programs

              

BMF provides a family helpline, moderated support groups and message boards where parents can reach out to others with questions, concerns or advice. The organization reports that its family helpline is comprised of approximately 75 trained volunteer parents who are currently raising, or who have raised, children diagnosed with bipolar disorder or severe depression. The volunteer parents are trained in disseminating technical information, providing emotional support, and connecting parents and caregivers with resources they need. Similarly, online support groups moderators are trained volunteers with at least 4 months experience working in an online support group setting. They provide resources, guidance, and support to users. The organization also provides online podcasts and blogs geared specifically towards helping teens and individuals in their 20's to understand depression and bipolar disorder. Two ten-minute podcasts are uploaded each week, typically consisting of interviews with young people who have overcome adversity.
