Programs

              

With the help of professional oncology social workers, CancerCare provides face-to-face, telephone, and online counseling to individuals and groups. The organization also has a CancerCare Connect program that involves Telephone Education Workshops (TEWs). Through the TEWs, participants are given the opportunity to listen and ask questions to cancer experts on a wide range of cancer topics. The organization's CancerCare Assist program assists people who are struggling with cancer-related expenses such as pain medication, transportation to and from treatment, home care, and child care. CancerCare Inform offers help, including educational materials and information and referrals. CancerCare's website, www.cancercare.org, is a resource where visitors can communicate with a social worker, join a support group, listen to an archived TEW, and access information on a variety of topics. CancerCare reports that during the 2007-2008 fiscal year, about 53,400 and more than 5,000 people received counseling and participated in CancerCare’s online support groups respectively. Some ($328,000, or 9%) of CancerCare's information and publications programs are carried out in conjunction with fund raising efforts.
