Programs

              

More than half ($10,379,548 or 56%) of AICR's public health education efforts are conducted in conjunction with fund raising appeals. AICR’s public health education efforts as highlighted in its fundraising appeals are primarily cancer prevention tips and a list of health brochures, self examination stickers, health recipes, etc. included on the back page of its appeals. AICR produces a variety of consumer booklets and brochures on diet, nutrition and cancer. The quarterly "AICR Newsletter" contains articles on cancer research, nutrition information, menu and recipe ideas, and other health information. AICR's Cancer Resource program produces information packages which explain common technical terms associated with cancer and describe treatment options and their potential side effects. Educational sessions on the diet/cancer link and cancer survivorship seminars are held throughout the country in various cities. AICR maintains a national nutrition hotline providing callers with responses from registered dietitians on nutrition questions. AICR awards research grants for studies on the effects of diet and physical activity on the prevention and treatment of cancer. Areas of current research include investigating the cancer fighting properties of apples, broccoli, flaxseed, green tea, pineapples, and soy. AICR is also active in interpreting the accumulated body of research on the relationship of diet and physical activity to cancer risk.
