Friends of Animals (FoA) does not meet the following Standard for Charity Accountability.

Standard 2: Number of Board Members - Soliciting organizations shall have a board of directors with a minimum of five voting members.

FoA does not meet this Standard because:

  • The organization has three (3) voting members of the board.

Programs

              

FoA's spaying program emphasizes the importance of spaying animals to reduce overpopulation and prevent the inhumane treatment of cats and dogs. FoA reports that they spay/neuter approximately 36,000 animals annually. The organization provides financial aid to needy pet owners for the spaying of cats and dogs by subsidizing spaying certificates honored by more than 900 veterinarians nationwide. Through brochures, newsletters, and ActionLine magazine, FoA informs members, the public, and the media on animal protection issues. FoA also monitors the enactment of new legislation, the enforcement of existing legislation, and works to influence government officials to secure better laws and strengthen regulations relating to animal protection issues.
