Programs

FACT regards factory farming, the raising of large populations of livestock and poultry in confined conditions, as not only inhumane for animals but also as a factor contributing to public health problems, the deterioration of rural communities, and environmental pollution. FACT relies on firsthand, on-farm research to make science-based recommendations to federal regulatory agencies and as the basis for organizing a broad public response. Its public health program advocates for farming practices that will protect human health, improve the safety of meat, milk, and eggs and promote the humane husbandry of food animals. FACT’s humane farming program researches problems affecting farm animal welfare and promotes welfare-friendly, sustainable husbandry systems that expand opportunities for family farmers.

For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2009, FACT's program expenses were:

KAW 340,460
Public Health 293,093
Humane Farming 210,226
