Programs

BCI educates people about the ecological and economic value of bats, advances scientific knowledge about bats and the ecosystems that rely on them and preserves bat habitats. Through its programs, BCI promotes the use of natural resources that benefit both bats and people. BCI manages grants, contracts, and awards from different government agencies. The organization works with partners to understand and stop white-nose syndrome (WNS) which has caused a decline in wildlife over the last century and BCI also aims to restore decimated bat populations. Furthermore, BCI has ongoing projects in the Philippines, Mexico, and Southeast Asia. Its global grassroots fund invests in grassroots habitat protection projects that teach local citizens the value of protecting bats. BCI’s student research scholarship program helps students at universities around the world conduct conservation-relevant research.

For the fiscal year ended May 31, 2010, BCI's program expenses were:

Science and conservation program 2,689,545
Education program 567,358
