Programs

              

American Humane Association operates animal protection, child welfare, human animal interaction, and public policy programs. Through its animal protection program, the organization provides professional training, resources, financial support and consultation to local animal welfare agencies. Furthermore, through this program, it trains and certifies animal emergency responders and supplies Red Star Animal Emergency Services™ personnel, equipment and supplies for disaster-related rescue, sheltering, and reuniting animals with owners. The American Humane Association’s child welfare program involves conducting research and analysis to address issues in child protective services and the development of evidence-based policy and practices to address issues and achieve better outcomes for children and families. This program also promotes and supports progressive, family-centered approaches to handling child abuse/neglect cases in order to ensure the safety and well-being of children. The organization’s human animal interaction program is aimed at building public awareness and understanding of human animal interaction in society. Through this program, the organization conducts animal assisted therapy training and deploys volunteer handler/animal teams in hospitals, schools and other facilities. Furthermore, the American Humane Association is also involved in public policy through advocating for the interests of children and animals legislatively at the federal and state levels.
