PURPOSE St. Matthews Area Ministries is established for the purpose of uniting the congregations of the greater St. Matthews area in ministering to needs of this community in the spirit of our common Lord. Mission Statement STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND HISTORY The purpose of St. Matthews Area Ministries is to unite the church congregations of the greater St. Matthews area, to gather their resources, and to focus them in ministering to the needs of this community in the spirit of our common Lord. St. MAM was founded in 1972 and is the second oldest area ministry in Jefferson County. St. MAM is a nonprofit corporation that is funded by contributions from the member churches, fund-raising/special events, grants, and donations. St. MAM meets community needs with services that include child development, emergency financial services, early essentials for infants and toddlers, food, personal hygiene needs, school supplies, disaster preparedness, medical equipment, budget/financial classes, meals on wheels, divorce transition seminars, and repairing homes. In addition to their financial contributions, the member churches contribute: (1) volunteers from their respective congregations; and (2) their church facilities for St. MAM programs and meetings, as needed and available.

St. Matthews Area Ministries seeks to unite the resources and people of area congregations to effectively meet community needs. Through St. MAM, area congregations collaborate and partner with government, schools, businesses, and other non-profits to meet emergency needs, to stabilize families in transitional situations, to provide a nurturing and healthy environment for children and youth, and to offer resources for the benefit of the whole community. St. MAM: -- Provides families and individuals with immediate, emergency relief from hunger through its food pantry and bread distribution program. -- Stabilizes families and individuals financially and emotionally through case management services and through seasonal support services, focusing on the holiday season and school start-up needs. -- Cares for families in transition and crisis through workshops for families coping with divorce, through Disaster Preparedness (V.O.A.D.), through counseling, and through family mentoring. -- Nurtures and mentors children and youth through its Child Development Center and its guidance of youth on court diversion. -- Responds to needs of people of all ages throughout the St. Matthews area, including addressing affordable housing and the needs of older adults, -- Ministers through volunteers: its work is made possible through the volunteer efforts of people from throughout the St. Matthews area. -- Supports families/individuals through Repair Affair, Project Warm, Blood Drives, School Resource Centers, Consumer Credit Counseling Services, and other collaborative partnerships.
