Programs

              

Clark County Youth Shelter and Family Services programs include: Residential Program--Emergency and long term services provided to youth who are experiencing unsafe home situations, status offenses (runaway, truancy, disobedience) or severe family conflicts. CCYS operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with one or more trained youth workers providing 24 hour awake supervision of the youth. Individual, group, and family counseling are available. Additionally, CCYS coordinates medical and dental care, provides tutoring, recreational activities and educational opportunities. Betting Against Drugs (BAD)--A substance abuse prevention program for current and past residents of CCYS. This program combines educational information with an incentive program to help keep our youth drug free. Community Education and Outreach--CCYS staff meet with youth and adult groups to discuss areas of concern, problems facing youth or to explain the services available at CCYS. Crisis Intervention--Crisis intervention services are available 365 days a year either in person at CCYS's facilities or via telephone. Both youths and adults concerned about a youth can access this service. Family Education and Support--Parenting education classes that focus on abuse prevention, effective parenting, and keeping children safe. Case management services are also available. Safe Place--A community outreach program operating in Clark and Floyd Counties. It allows youth in unsafe situations a means to obtain help quickly. Youth access assistance through one of the agency’s business sites and a volunteer is dispatched to the site to provide crisis intervention and/or transportation services. Anger Management for Teens -- This free program is offered to youth ages 11 to 18 who are referred by parents, school, probation, and/or other agencies/businesses. It is a six-week class that focuses on addressing the thought processes and feelings that cause anger and provides techniques and choices to control/express anger appropriately. Shoplifting Prevention -- This 3 week class is free and open to youth ages 11 to 18 who have either been charged with a shoplifting offense or who have been caught shoplifting.
