Hospice services include:
--pain and symptom control
--medication management
--personal care
--emotional and spiritual support
--counseling
--speech, physical, occupational and other therapies related to terminal diagnosis
--bereavement care.
Hospice care refers to care aimed at relieving suffering when a cure is not expected. It involves treatments that enhance a patient's comfort and improve the quality of the patient's life. Anyone with any terminal diagnosis with a six-month expected prognosis can access hospice care. Hosparus accepts referrals 24 hours daily. Hosparus caregivers include medical doctors, nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, expressive therapists, chaplains, bereavement counselors, support staff, and volunteers, and who provide compassionate end-of-life medical treatment, and emotional and spiritual support.
Programs include:
Inpatient Care--Hosparus operates an inpatient care center at the Norton Healthcare Pavilion, 315 East Broadway Louisville, KY (15 beds).
Pediatric Care--Hosparus Pediatric Team, "Kourageous Kids", annually provides the highest standard of hospice care for more than 70 seriously ill children annually.
Bereavement Care--The Grief Counseling Center, with offices in Louisville, Elizabethtown and Southern Indiana, offers the region's most comprehensive programs and services for children, adolescents, adults, and families who are struggling with loss.
The Hospice Education Center provides a network of education and research that seeks to relieve pain, provide comfort, and enhance quality of life for those experiencing life-limiting illness or significant loss. A partial list of educational offerings includes advanced directives, cultural concerns in palliative care, creating rituals, death and dying, dementia and the hospice patient, and pain and symptom control.
