Friend for Life Cancer Support Network meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

The Friend for Life Cancer Support Network recruits and trains cancer survivors and co-survivors (caregivers) to serve as Peer Navigators: volunteers who provide one-on-one emotional and psychosocial support to individuals recently diagnosed with cancer and their loved ones. The organization provides a one day (8 hour) training facilitated by healthcare professionals at least once each year in order to prepare new volunteers for their role as peer mentors. The organization then matches newly diagnosed cancer patients with a trained volunteer who has encountered the same form of cancer and/or proposed course of treatment. Whenever possible, patients are matched with volunteers by age, gender, and similar interests. Other programs and services offered by the organization include an active speakers bureau, participation in providing the 'real patient' perspective to medical and nursing students, participation in local health fairs, outreach to underserved communities, and referrals to local and national organizations to assist those coping with cancer in finding the support they need. Services are offered free of charge.
