Programs

              

(Program Service 1) Information, Education & Support Education: • Provided 5 low cost training workshops on effective teaching strategies for individuals with autism to 260 parents and teachers. 42 public school teachers and 38 parents were provided free spots by application. • Two Day Autism Intervention conference with six experts presented to 174 teachers, therapists & family members. • Regularly scheduled educational meetings were held in various parts of the Greater Houston area open to all. (11 educational meetings held) Information and Support: • Parent and teacher information and support provided through newsletter, email list, telephone support and lending library of books. (69 informational emails) • Development of community awareness of autism and effective treatment through educational handouts and publications provided at resource fairs, conferences and meetings. • Published bimonthly newsletters with information on meetings and trainings and articles informing parents and teachers about scientifically validated treatments and how to access them. The newsletter is mailed free of charge to more than 700 recipients and emailed to a list of over 1700. (5 Newsletters) (Program Service 2) Training Projects • Professional Resource Development and Parent Training: One grant to provide 5 free training workshops with free childcare and sibling group (75 families served). • Tuition reimbursement for coursework leading to certification given to one individual. • Two individuals received stipends to attend the annual national professional conference.
