Houston Habitat for Humanity's goal is to encourage, promote, and assist in building affordable homes and serving low-income families in need of decent housing. Houston Habitat for Humanity finances its operations through continuing community contributions, mortgage payment receipts, proceeds from the ReStore, a discount supply outlet, and financing or sale of its mortgage loan receivable. Houston Habitat's Family Services and Mortgage Departments work with homeowners to prepare them for mortgage and other property ownership responsibilities such as finances, budgeting, insurance, taxes, legal and Home Owner Association (HOA) requirements and restrictions. Houston Habitat walks the extra mile with owners to ensure a successful experience that leads to equity build-up and full ownership at end of mortgage term. Through the Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, NRI, the non-profit works to assist qualified homeowners of older existing homes in need of repair in Fifth Ward. Since 1987 Houston Habitat has built over 955 homes housing over 3,200 Houstonians with more than half of these children.
