Programs

              

The Center for Hearing & Speech maintains and develops the following programs: Melinda Webb School, Audiology Clinic, Speech-Language Pathology Clinic, and Cochlear Implant Program. Please read the program descriptions outlined below. Melinda Webb School (for children aged 18 months to 7 years): Provides auditory-oral education for children. Staff members work to enable children with hearing impairments and deafness to reach their potential by facilitating listening, speaking and literacy skills. The primary goal of oral-deaf education is to prepare students for successful transitions into mainstream, traditional school programs. Audiology Clinic (for infants, children, and young adults up to 18 years old): Offers comprehensive hearing, hearing aid and cochlear implant services to children birth to 18 years. Speech-Language Pathology Clinic (for infants, children, and young adults up to 18 years old): The Speech-Language Pathologists help each individual child with a hearing impairment learn to listen and talk to their maximum potential. Speech-Language Pathology Clinic offers hearing assessments, consultations for treatment plans, a Parent-Infant Program and Auditory-Verbal Therapy, Individual Therapy, Aural Rehabilitation, Bilingual Services, a Transitions program for those children with very little or no previous auditory and spoken language intervention, and School Support. Cochlear Implant Program: Provides a full range of cochlear implant services for children who wear Cochlear Corp. and Med-El cochlear implant devices. In 2011, CHS served 4,264 children from 283 ZIP Codes and 27 counties throughout Houston and Southeast Texas.
