Programs

HMH stands boldly as an institution dedication to the past, present and future. Through teacher training, educational and outreach programming, exhibits and tours, Holocaust Museum Houston teaches the events of the Holocaust to demonstrate the destructive power of prejudice and the importance of moral courage and individual responsibility. HMH originated in the hearts and minds of Houston-area survivors. The idea to build a memorial and education center garnered brad based support among Houston’s business, cultural, educational, and religious communities. HMH opened on March 3, 1996. The 23,000 square foot museum is a living testimonial to those who perished in the Holocaust, a place of honor for those who survived, and a source of education for present and future generations. Last year, the Museum welcomed 115,550 visitors; more than 20,000 of these visitors were students on scheduled tours from 226 Houston area schools. The Museum displayed six changing and traveling exhibits and hosted 20 public programs. Our Curriculum Trunk Program reached more than 45,000 students last year and 226 schools across the nation. Holocaust Museum Houston’s programs reach people of various backgrounds throughout the community and nation. Exposure to all members of the community, especially students who are the future and hope of society, is pertinent to the cessation of human rights violations worldwide. Our programs encourage diverse students, teachers, and members of society to think about issues in their community and how they as individuals can, and must, help to make a difference. Holocaust Museum Houston’s exhibits and public and educational programs are coordinated by experienced Museum staff.

For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010, Holocaust Museum Houston's program expenses were:

Total: 1,970,024
