Programs

Founded in 1983 by Houston area chapters of the National Exchange Club, ESCAPE Family Resource Center is a privately-funded nonprofit, 501(c)(3), organization whose mission is “to prevent child abuse and neglect before a child is hurt by providing intervention, education, and support programs to families in crisis”. They provide child abuse prevention programs and parenting classes to families residing in the Greater Houston area (Harris and Fort Bend counties). Their courses teach families stress reduction, family safety, behavior management, communication, problem solving, and discipline skills. Multiple course variations make it possible for nearly every family composition to participate in the agency’s programs. Most courses are available in English and Spanish. During Fiscal Year 2010, ESCAPE provided 361 deliveries of our programs to more than 6,200 adults and children. Currently, they are active in 92 collaborations with other organizations. Classes are delivered “on-site” at their facility in central Houston and “off-site” at 87 locations in the community. The research-based Adult/Adolescent Parenting Inventory (AAPI-2) is used to evaluate program effectiveness. For Fiscal Year 2010, their comprehensive analysis reveals that 77.29% of clients participating in all programs evaluated either (a) improved or (b) showed no negative change in their parenting attitudes when tested prior to and then following completion in our courses. Specifically, 70.71% of clients in English-language programs and 82.77% of clients in Spanish-language programs met this benchmark.

For the fiscal year ended August 31, 2010, ESCAPE Family Resource Center of the Exchange Clubs of Houston's program expenses were:
