Evaluation Conclusions

              

The Periwinkle Foundation does not meet the following Standard for Charity Accountability.

Standard 3: Frequency and Attendance of Board Meetings - An organization shall have a minimum of three evenly spaced meetings per year of the full governing body with a majority in attendance, with face-to-face participation. A conference call of the full board can substitute for one of the three meetings of the governing body. For all meetings, alternative modes of participation are acceptable for those with physical disabilities.

Periwinkle Foundation does not meet this Standard because the average of three best attended board meetings is less than 50%.

Programs

              

Each year more than 4,000 children are touched by Periwinkle programs Camp Periwinkle, Camp YOLO, Family Camp, the Long Term Survivor Program and the Arts & Creative Writing Program which culminates each year in a traveling exhibition of art by children touched by cancer and blood disorders. Camp Periwinkle is a weeklong special needs camp for children, ages 7-15, with cancer and blood disorders and their siblings who are patients at Texas Children's Cancer Center. Making A Mark is an art and creative writing program for children with cancer and their siblings that The Periwinkle Foundation adopted in February 2002. Camp YOLO (You Only Live Once) is a special needs camp for patients from the cancer, blood disorder, cardiac, renal, and HIV services at Texas Children's Hospital and their siblings, ages 13 to 18. Celebration of Life is an opportunity for cancer survivors and their families and current patients and their families to gather together away from the hospital environment. Held at the Renaissance Hotel at Greenway Plaza, with the hotel donating all of the food and beverages. Each person is given a survivor bear and provided with opportunities to find out about different resources to help families undergoing the cancer process.
