In 1968, Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) was born, the dream of legendary Frank Young, whose vision and energy set in motion a non-profit theatre company. During the 2012-2013 Season, September to June, TUTS performed 9 musicals with a total attendance of 163.000, at Hobby Center for the Performing Arts and Miller Outdoor Theatre. TUTS advances the cause of arts in our world, joining the voices of teachers and scholars who recognize the arts are vital to young people’s success in school and in life. As art dollars evaporate in schools’ budgets, it is the duty of arts organization such as TUTS to play a role in bringing theatre into the lives of our children. Therefore, TUTS is always on the outlook for outreach opportunities to add new programs and events that contribute to the betterment of the community. Each year, TUTS reaches more than 64,000 children with our Education and Outreach programs, which include The Humphreys School of Musical Theatre, ACT@TUTS, Tommy Tune Awards, Beyond the Stage, YMCA Camps, KIPP Academy, Student Matinees, Musicals for Young Audiences, M.D. Anderson Children’s Cancer Center, Texas Children’s Hospital, and many more.
