The Museum exemplifies the dynamic relationship between contemporary art and contemporary society through its exhibitions, public and educational programs, and publications. The CAMH provides the physical and intellectual framework essential to the presentation, interpretation, and advancement of contemporary art; it is a vibrant forum for artists and all audiences, and for critical, scholarly, and public discourse.

Contemporary Arts Museum Houston does not meet the following 2 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Standard 6: Board Policy on Effectiveness - Have a board policy of assessing, no less than every two years, the organization's performance and effectiveness and of determining future actions required to achieve its mission.

The Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston does not meet this Standard because the organization's board does not have a written policy of assessing the organization's performance and effectiveness.

Standard 18: Privacy for Written Appeals & Internet Privacy - Address privacy concerns of donors by (a) providing in written appeals, at least annually, a means (e.g., such as a check off box) for both new and continuing donors to inform the charity if they do not want their name and address shared outside the organization, (b) providing a clear, prominent and easily accessible privacy policy on any of its websites that tells visitors (i) what information, if any, is being collected about them by the charity and how this information will be used, (ii) how to contact the charity to review personal information collected and request corrections, (iii) how to inform the charity (e.g., a check off box) that the visitor does not wish his/her personal information to be shared outside the organization, and (iv) what security measures the charity has in place to protect personal information.

Programs

              

Public and Education Program - the museum presents a variety of innovative education programs and activities to make its exhibitions intellectually and emotionally accessible to diverse audiences. These programs are offered free of charge to the public and include: school tours; downloadable lesson plans and resources for teachers; Artists/Scholars talks by the exhibiting artists, curators, art historians, and scholars of other various disciplines; the audio-guide; the FAQTeam; various symposia and lectures; programs designed by the Teen Council for adolescent audiences; and a variety of self-study resources available in the Cullen Education Resource Center. Also, CAMH's grant and scholarship program awards a scholarship to a graduating senior from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. In fiscal year 2007-2008, 292,633 visitors attended CAMH.
