Programs

              

AMIGOS helps prepare the leaders of tomorrow, while serving rural Latin American communities today. Over the past 40 years, AMIGOS has sent more than 20,000 high school and college age students to Latin America to work on community development and service projects. While in Latin America, Volunteers live and work with host families, collaborating with their local host community on a wide array of health, education and environmental projects and taking on a high level of responsibility. AMIGOS’ projects involve a close collaboration between youth participants, a vigorous network of international partner agencies, and members of the communities we serve. AMIGOS has many long-standing partnerships and is highly respected for its community-focused programs and hard-working youth. AMIGOS service projects in Latin America focus on a wide range of issues, including: Agricultural Development, Community Sanitation, Dental Hygiene, Environmental Education, Family Nutrition, Health Education, School Renovations, Youth Group Formation and Collaboration, and Leadership Development Each AMIGOS project is designed and implemented in close collaboration with partner agencies at the local and national level, creating a network of ideas and shared efforts that help to appropriately address the needs of our host communities. In 2011, more than 1,500 teenagers and young adults from across the Americas spent the summer working in 260 communities in Latin America through AMIGOS' programs.
