Programs

The Food Pantry Program provides monthly food allotments that are distributed to neighbors in need throughout Columbus. The food pantry uses a consumer choice pantry model with neighbors walking through the pantry and selecting the food based on their families’ unique needs. Families receive a seven day food supply. In addition, fresh produce and bakery items are available daily. The Clothing/Oasis Room is a hospitality room that is open to anyone who is seeking information, referrals, or companionship. In addition, neighbors can receive used clothing once a month at no cost. Back to School Programs provide children with new school clothes and school supplies throughout the year as needed. According to the charity, in 2009, Neighborhood Services assisted 737 children with school supplies and new clothing. The Holiday Programs provide families with food baskets for Easter, Thanksgiving, and/or Christmas meals. During the Christmas season, children receive toys and clothing. The Benefit Bank has volunteers offer application assistance for public programs and/or tax return filings. Neighbors work with a trained volunteer to identify and apply for public assistance programs and tax credits. Some of the benefits individuals can receive include food stamps, medical benefits, energy financial assistance, and child care. The Benefit Bank volunteers work closely with a Franklin County Jobs and Family Services case manager to insure that the family’s application is expedited.
