Parents Of Murdered Children (POMC) is dedicated to providing support and advocacy to those who have experienced the murder of a loved one. POMC's concentration is on the aftermath and prevention of murder. The national headquarters of POMC coordinates special programs and services nationwide to assist survivors of homicide victims as well as professionals who work with or come in contact with survivors across the United States. POMC chapters in other states implement these programs and services. POMC national headquarters averages 1,068 murder-related interactions such as phone calls, emails, or personal meetings with affected family members each week. After the initial contact, survivors are referred to the POMC Chapter closest to them. Specific programs include: Parole Block Program (PBP) - works to keep convicted murderers behind bars for their minimum sentence by circulating petitons protesting the early release or parole of convicted murderers (according to the organization, to date POMC has kept 1,325 murderers from being released from prison). The Murder Wall...Honoring Their Memories - the Murder Wall travels throughout the country paying tribute to the memory of murder victims and is a reminder of our need to stop the violence. Murder Response Team - POMC representatives are available, upon request, to provide assistance to a community when violent death(s) occur. Second Opinion Services - solves and provides answers to questions to familes of those whose loved one's cases are unsolved or complicated.
