Programs

VISIONS Community Services (VCS) provides licensed, early childhood education, and care for infants and toddlers, ages 6 weeks to 5 years, who are the children of the teen and young mothers. The curriculum integrates developmentally appropriate tasks and activities that promote progression through the developmental milestones of early childhood, building partnerships with families and preparing children to succeed as they enter kindergarten. The Early Education and Care Program recognizes the critical importance of the first three years of life. Stressful experiences and adversity during these formative years can negatively influence brain development and lead to lifelong problems including developmental delays and decreased overall health and well being. The program strives to meet all the basic physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs of children to optimize their healthy growth and development. The safe nurturing environment provides primary prevention for child abuse and/or neglect. The Nurturing Families Parent Program provides opportunities for parents to learn life skills, develop positive behaviors and receive support to improve self-sufficiency for teen and young parents. The program curriculum includes three modules that promote professional development, positive parenting, and health, nutrition and wellness. Parents receive assistance to complete their education, obtain job training, and secure meaningful employment. Services are designed to help teen and young parents build strong, healthy families and children through positive parenting skills and reduce the high school drop out rate by teenage mothers. Program activities include individual counseling, education/support workshops, in-school student support groups, mentoring, client advocacy, crisis intervention, and referrals to job training programs and for mental health and health care services.
