Evaluation Conclusions

              

LifeCenter Organ Donor Network does not meet the following 3 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Standard 9: Fund Raising Expense Ratio - Spending should be no more than 35% of related contributions on fund raising. Related contributions include donations, legacies, and other gifts received as a result of fund raising efforts.

According to the charity's audited financial statements for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2008, the charity's fundraising costs were 185% ($167,345) of related contributions which totaled $90,552.

 

Standard 16: Annual Report - Have an annual report available to all, on request, that includes: (a) the organization's mission statement, (b) a summary of the past year's program service accomplishments, (c) a roster of the officers and members of the board of directors, (d) financial information that includes (i) total income in the past fiscal year, (ii) expenses in the same program, fund raising and administrative categories as in the financial statements, and (iii) ending net assets.

The organization's most recent annual report does not include total income, expenses by program, fundraising, and administrative, and total ending net assets.

 

Standard 17: Web Site Disclosures - Include on any charity websites that solicit contributions, the same information that is recommended for annual reports, as well as the mailing address of the charity and electronic access to its most recent IRS Form 990.

Programs

              

LifeCenter Organ Donor Network provides educational and motivational programs to health care professionals regarding their role in the organ donation process. LifeCenter also conducts a proactive campaign to build awareness of and support for organ and tissue donation in the community. LifeCenter works through and with the media, special events, programs, schools, churches, civic groups, and other community organizations. In addition, the charity provides technical, medical, administrative, and social services to individuals giving or receiving organs for transplant. LifeCenter provides 24-hour service for referrals, case management, and organ placement. According to the charity, LifeCenter works with area hospitals to coordinate donations and in 2008, managed 31 organ donors, 416 tissue donors, and 103 imports of organs. Additional services offered by LifeCenter include bereavement services for donor families, volunteer opportunities, and donor registry drives for area business and organizations.
