Evaluation Conclusions

              

Healthy Beginnings, Inc. does not meet the following Standard for Charity Accountability.

Standard 11: Financial Statements - Make available to all, on request, complete annual financial statements prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. When total annual gross income exceeds $250,000, these statements should be audited in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards. For charities whose annual gross income is less than $250,000, a review by a certified public accountant is sufficient to meet this standard. For charities whose annual gross income is less than $100,000, an internally produced, complete financial statement is sufficient to meet this standard.

Despite gross revenues of $1,354,906 for the year ended December 31, 2008, the charity did not obtain an audit of its financial statements by an independent certified public accountant (CPA).

Programs

              

Healthy Beginnings provides pregnant women prenatal care and medical information in a non-judgmental, safe environment. The charity only serves women who are under-insured or have no insurance. According to the charity, over 85% of the patients have no medical insurance on arrival and nine out of ten are classified as high-risk pregnancy. Dietitian Services include a licensed dietitian, who help women learn about the need to eat properly and keep themselves hydrated throughout their pregnancy. Licensed mental health therapists assists clients with drug rehabilitation, abusive situations, homelessness, parenting skills, abstinence training, and relationship counseling. In addition, the charity provides ultrasounds at four of the six locations with registered obstetric ultrasound sonographers. According to the charity, in 2009 Healthy Beginnings served 1,952 patients with 12,626 visits to the six different locations.
