Programs

Cincinnati Works assists its members in combating the cycle of poverty through job skills training and continued employment counseling. These program services are provided with the goal of economic self sufficiency, through the building blocks involved in facilitating the initial employment process necessary to progress to long-term employment. These building blocks include: providing members with access to area employers, job readiness training, behavioral counseling, legal advocacy, spiritual support, childcare resources, and transportation assistance, along with the option of lifetime membership. Cincinnati Works has relationships with over 70 area employers hiring for entry/mid-level positions starting from around $9.00 to $11.00 per hour. After an initial information session, job readiness training provides members with on site training Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Cincinnati Works offices. This job readiness training covers topics from applications and references to employer expectations and problem solving skills. Individuals work with Employment Support Specialists, who assist them in identifying their skills and qualifications for the positions they are looking for. The employment process is supported through personal services, such as counseling by a licensed independant social worker, as well as spiritual guidance provided by a chaplain. Legal advocacy is also provided to individuals to remove any legal barriers to employment. Cincinnati Works encourages a mentor relationship through a presentation to graduating workshop classes, after which interested individuals can choose to continue this mentoring relationship.

For the fiscal year ended December 31, 2009, Cincinnati Works' program expenses were:

Job Readiness Program 660,835
