Programs

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Cincinnati (RMHC) provides a supportive “home away from home” for families of serious ill children who are receiving treatment at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and other area hospitals. Currently RHMC houses approximately 1,000 families per year with an average stay of 27 days. Families can contribute a minimal donation of $25 per night, but no one is turned away due to the inability to contribute. (The actual cost to operate a room is $97 per day, but guests donate only an average of $10.79 per day.) Since 1982, Ronald McDonald House has offered support and relief to over 19,000 children and their families through providing a comfortable place to sleep, home-cooked meals, exercise and indoor and outdoor play areas, on-site teachers, and regularly programmed family activities, as well as the chance to relax with and support other families of ill children. The House serves all ages, socioeconomic levels and races, welcoming all families who need a place to rest and support their seriously ill children. In addition to paid personnel, the House is staffed by over 400 guest services volunteers. These individuals work daily to answer phones, prepare guest rooms, give House tours, perform light housekeeping tasks, and provide support to guest families and their children. Additionally, the charity has over 1,000 volunteer groups who come to the House to prepare home-cooked meals and snacks for the families nearly every day of the year. The underlying purpose of the House’s programs is for families of seriously ill children to experience some relief from the emotional, physical, and financial stresses caused by their children’s illnesses and all its rippling effects. Families will then be better able to support their children’s healing.

For the fiscal year ended December 31, 2009, RMHC's program expenses were:

Operate Ronald House 1,881,406
Grant Making 27,376
