Programs

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati (BBBS) provides one-to-one services by matching youth with screened, trained, and professionally-supported volunteers (each volunteer is assigned a case manager). The charity matches children between the ages of 8 and 13 who are living in a single-parent or non-parent home in the Tri-State area (Hamilton, Clermont and Brown counties in Ohio; Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Grant and Pendleton counties in Kentucky; Dearborn, Ohio and Ripley counties in Indiana). In the BBBS Community-Based Mentoring Program, Big Brothers/Sisters and their little Brothers/Sisters get together on their own to experience activities they both enjoy. This normally occurs about once a week for about an hour. The BBBS Site-Based Mentoring Program involves a child and volunteer meeting at a local school. BBBS of Greater Cincinnati partners with 18 Tristate Schools where children and volunteers who may not be able to meet through the Community-Based Program have an opportunity to meet for about an hour a week at the child's school. The BBBS of Greater Cincinnati Caregiver's Choice Program matches mentors with children of prisoners. This program gives the child's caregiver the choice of picking the best mentoring program for his or her child. According to the charity, of the nearly 1,506 children served by mentoring programs in 2009, 99% are in school, 99% are substance abuse free, 99% are not pregnant or parenting and 99% are not in the juvenile justice system.
