Evaluation Conclusions

              

Maryville Academy does not meet the following 3 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Standard 16: Annual Report - Have an annual report available to all, on request, that includes: (a) the organization's mission statement, (b) a summary of the past year's program service accomplishments, (c) a roster of the officers and members of the board of directors, (d) financial information that includes (i) total income in the past fiscal year, (ii) expenses in the same program, fund raising and administrative categories as in the financial statements, and (iii) ending net assets.

Standard 17: Web Site Disclosures - Include on any charity websites that solicit contributions, the same information that is recommended for annual reports, as well as the mailing address of the charity and electronic access to its most recent IRS Form 990.

Maryville Academy does not meet this Standard because the organization's website, , does not include all of the recommended information for those charity websites that solicit for donations. Specifically, it does not include:

  • Total income.
  • Total program expenses.
  • Total fund raising expenses.
  • Total administrative expenses.
  • End of year net assets.

Standard 18: Privacy for Written Appeals & Internet Privacy - Address privacy concerns of donors by (a) providing in written appeals, at least annually, a means (e.g., such as a check off box) for both new and continuing donors to inform the charity if they do not want their name and address shared outside the organization, (b) providing a clear, prominent and easily accessible privacy policy on any of its websites that tells visitors (i) what information, if any, is being collected about them by the charity and how this information will be used, (ii) how to contact the charity to review personal information collected and request corrections, (iii) how to inform the charity (e.g., a check off box) that the visitor does not wish his/her personal information to be shared outside the organization, and (iv) what security measures the charity has in place to protect personal information.

Maryville Academy does not meet this Standard because the privacy policy on this website, does not indicate:

  • What personal information is being collected and how it will be used.
  • How to contact the charity to review personal information that is collected and request corrections.
  • How to inform the charity that the visitor does not want his/her information shared with others.
  • What security measures are in place to protect personal information that is collected.
In addition, the BBB of Chicago & Northern Illinois requested but did not receive complete information on the organization’s governance and oversight, effectiveness measures, solicitation materials, and fundraising disclosures and is unable to verify the organization's compliance with the following 7Standards for Charity Accountability: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 15, and 19.
Maryville Academy meets the remaining 9 Standards for Charity Accountability. Please note that as of the date of this report 1 out of the 20Standards for Charity Accountability are not currently effective. As a result, this standard has not been applied to this evaluation.

Psychiatric Hospital and Outpatient Services Maryville works with children, families and young adults, who have complex mental health needs. Our approach is strengths based, identifying people’s resources and building on them. Education and Vocation Education and vocational experiences are fundamentally important to the process of helping people achieve their fullest potential. Maryville Academy offers a range of both educational and vocational services for children living at Maryville and for students living in our community Maryville Family Support We believe that the best place for children to grow up is in families. Maryville Academy offers resources to support and preserve families through a respectful, strengths-based approach that views the family as central to the child's well-being. Maryville Academy works with the families to ensure the safety and well-being of all family members. The family support services provided help to strengthen the capacity of families to function effectively when dealing with life challenges. We engage, empower and partner with families throughout decision and goal-making processes and we provide individualized services for each family linking them to community-based networks of supports and services. Shelter & Residential Programs Maryville Academy provides a safe and stable living environment for those who are unable to live at home. While children and adolescents live at Maryville Academy, a team of highly-trained professionals works with them and their families with the goal of restoring family life whenever possible. Children and adolescents who are unable to return to their homes are prepared for long-term residential care, transitional living, foster care or independent living. Through individual, group and family therapy, children and adolescents are encouraged to communicate their feelings and confront their challenges in a safe and loving environment. We strive to empower our young people by encouraging them to participate in their treatment planning, and we individualize our service provision by keeping in mind each person's unique challenges and strengths. Youth Outreach and Athletics Maryville Academy strives to educate and empower young people with the knowledge and skills needed to make a lasting contribution to the community. Maryville's outreach and athletic programs contribute to the development of the whole person, providing life experiences designed to prepare them for the future.
