Howard Area Community Center does not meet this Standard because the organization's website, howardarea.org, does not include all of the recommended information for those charity websites that solicit for donations. Specifically, it does not include:

  • Electronic access to the organization’s most recent IRS Form 990.
In addition, the BBB of Chicago & Northern Illinois requested but did not receive complete information on the organization’s donor privacy and is unable to verify the organization's compliance with the following Standard for Charity Accountability: 18.

Programs

              

Howard Area serves more than 8,000 people through its five departments: *The Early Childhood and Home Visiting Department includes accredited full-day care center for children ages 0 to 5 and home visiting services for families with infants and toddlers. *The Youth Department provides after-school programs at three area public schools and at Howard Area's Arts and Technology Youth Center. Through these outlets, the Youth Department offers mentoring and skill-building activities five days a week throughout the year. *The Howard Area Leadership Academy is an alternative high school that gives youth a second chance to earn a diploma. *The Adult Education and Employment Department offers basic literacy, GED and ESL classes; job readiness training, job placement and retention services; and computer skills instruction. *The Health and Human Services Department provides emergency food, financial aid, case management, health education, access to medications, HIV prevention and access to sliding-scale fee dental services.
