Programs

              

Wisdom Tooth Project. Works with both national and local levels to connect communities with resources, educate older adults and their care advisers, and advocate for policies that improve oral health. Srategies include an online portal, symposia, publications and communication campaigns. Campaign for Oral Health Equity includes communications and events that prioritize mouth health along with other serious health considerations. Initiatives include: Fall for Smiles which promotes healthy food choices, avoiding tobacco, brushing and flossing and visiting a dental health professional; Medical Dental Dialogues facilitates researchers, clinicians, policymakers, media and other key stakeholders and renders information usable by practitioners and the public; and the Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives is a coalition of oral health organizations collaborating to raise awareness about children’s oral health through a national campaign with the Ad Council. Smiles Across America increases access to dental services in school-based and school-linked settings for 400,000 children in 34 states who are most at risk for developing dental disease. SAA identifies promising, local community efforts and supports the development and expansion of programs with an emphasis on disease prevention. SAA supports community efforts through grant funding, donated dental products and by providing technical assistance. OHA distributes over 500,000 units of donated dental product; has surpassed $2.1 million in grant dollars distributed to local programs since 2004; sealed over 400,000 teeth and have set a goal of sealing 2 million teeth in this decade to meet the goals of Healthy People 2020. NSTEP (National Spit Tobacco Education Program helps prevent people, especially young people, from starting to use spit and smokeless tobacco, and aims to help all users quit.
