Programs

Founded in 2002, Action for Healthy Kids is a national non-profit organization that addresses the childhood obesity epidemic by transforming schools into healthier places. With the support of more than 65,000 volunteers and champions (parents, teachers, health professionals, community members and more) and 75 national partner organizations, AFHK has reached more than 25,000 schools and 10.8 million children to date with their programs and resources. With one in three children being overweight or obese and health care costs for obesity and its related diseases costing the United States an estimated $210 billion annually, the US is a nation in crisis. AFHK works to improve community wellbeing by focusing on preventing and reducing childhood obesity and food insecurity through educational efforts, school programs, financial support for program implementation, and grassroots volunteerism to create transformative school wellness improvements.
