West Suburban Humane Society does not meet the following 4 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Standard 7: Board Approval of Written Report on Effectiveness - Submit to the organization's governing body, for its approval, a written report that outlines the results of the aforementioned performance and effectiveness assessment and recommendations for future actions.

West Suburban Humane Society does not meet this Standard because:

  • It did not produce a written report outlining the results of its most recent effectiveness assessment.

Standard 8: Program Service Expense Ratio - Spend at least 65% of its total expenses on program activities.

West Suburban Humane Society does not meet this Standard because:

  • According to the its audited financial statements for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2011, the organization spent $228,395 or 37% of its total expenses ($612,060) on program service activities.

West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS) is a volunteer-based, animal welfare organization that was founded in 1972 as a lost and found referral service. We provide housing for up to 25 dogs and 60 cats at a time. We operate at full capacity at all times with animal care and adoptions being provided by 2 full-time and 6 part-time employees and nearly 500 volunteers. Our facility is open to the public 6 days a week. We continue to reunite lost animals and their owners by maintaining a database with information on over 33.000 pets and their owners and by providing free pet identification tags to all pet owners.
