RMHC of WNY, Inc. (RMHCWNY) does not meet the following 5 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Standard 8: Program Service Expense Ratio - Spend at least 65% of its total expenses on program activities.

RMHCWNY does not meet this Standard because:

  • According to the its audited financial statements for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2012, the organization spent $425,703 or 62% of its total expenses ($681,461) on program service activities.

Standard 10: Ending Net Assets - Avoid accumulating funds that could be used for current program activities. To meet this standard, the charity's unrestricted net assets available for use should not be more than three times the size of the past year's expenses or three times the size of the current year's budget, whichever is higher.

RMHCWNY does not meet this Standard because:

  • According to its audited financial statements for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2012, the organization's total unrestricted net assets (minus property/equipment) were $2,389,791 or 3.5 times the charity's total budgeted expenses of $681,461.

Standard 16: Annual Report - Have an annual report available to all, on request, that includes: (a) the organization's mission statement, (b) a summary of the past year's program service accomplishments, (c) a roster of the officers and members of the board of directors, (d) financial information that includes (i) total income in the past fiscal year, (ii) expenses in the same program, fund raising and administrative categories as in the financial statements, and (iii) ending net assets.

RMHCWNY does not meet this Standard because:

  • The organization states it does not have an annual report covering activities conducted in the past year.

Standard 17: Web Site Disclosures - Include on any charity websites that solicit contributions, the same information that is recommended for annual reports, as well as the mailing address of the charity and electronic access to its most recent IRS Form 990.

Standard 18: Privacy for Written Appeals & Internet Privacy - Address privacy concerns of donors by (a) providing in written appeals, at least annually, a means (e.g., such as a check off box) for both new and continuing donors to inform the charity if they do not want their name and address shared outside the organization, (b) providing a clear, prominent and easily accessible privacy policy on any of its websites that tells visitors (i) what information, if any, is being collected about them by the charity and how this information will be used, (ii) how to contact the charity to review personal information collected and request corrections, (iii) how to inform the charity (e.g., a check off box) that the visitor does not wish his/her personal information to be shared outside the organization, and (iv) what security measures the charity has in place to protect personal information.

The Ronald McDonald House of Buffalo (R.M.H.C.of W.N.Y.) provides safe, affordable lodging and other services for more than 600 patients and their families annually. Families seeking specialized medical care for their seriously ill or injured child are asked to contribute $15. per night, per family. If a family is unable to contribute and a bedroom is available, they stay for free. Donations from the local community generously support the annual operation of the Buffalo Ronald McDonald House. It serves families of all races, religions and socioeconomic levels. With only full time employees and part time staff who take care of the House at night and on weekends, it depends heavily on community volunteers to deliver services for families. Volunteers prepare home-cooked meals, drive the House van to and from the hospitals, help with fundraising events and keep the House neat and clean. In addition to its core mission, the House, R.M.H.C. of W.N.Y. provides modest grants to local not-for-profit organizations serving children. These grant monies are donated by McDonald's customers and Global R.M.H.C. matching funds.
