Programs

Since 1899, the Boston Rescue Mission has focused on preventing homelessness and guiding people from a place of need to a place of self-sufficiency. Our continuum of care approach offers clients a wide range of support programs and services that focus on both preventing and ending homelessness. The Mission’s overnight emergency shelter provides guests with multiple meals, a safe place to sleep, and bathroom/shower facilities. Our meal programs also include a daily community meal for the street community, multiple mealtimes for our in-house guests and a food pantry. Over 165,000 meals a year help people to focus on maintaining a stable housing situation and ultimately avoid homelessness. We offer as part of our prevention strategy residential recovery programs to men and women emerging from Detox, vocational development for those who need training and guidance to rejoin the workforce, and individualized case management for all clients. Case managers assess the client’s needs and then develop an individualized care plan for each client, which is implemented through semi-weekly case management sessions. Over the course of the program, case managers and training sessions provide clients with substance abuse treatment, mental health services, anger management treatment, employment assistance, job training, housing assistance, and financial management assistance. In addition, clients participate in classes on living independently, repairing broken relationships, and improving social skills. Our approach establishes a caring and accountable recovery environment along with job skills and related training designed to promote healthy, independent living. Over 400 men and women each year participate in the recovery program and are provided aftercare services and support. We are committed to helping people break their personal cycle of homelessness and over time have seen remarkable results.
