OFIC is a tax-exempt 501 (c)(30 public foundation with a membership of 34 Ohio independent colleges/universities. OFIC solicits contributions from the corporate/business community for unrestricted, scholarship and program funding for financial support to colleges/universities.

According to the information we have at this time, The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) is exempt from needing a permit to conduct charitable solicitations and fundraising activitiies within the City of Columbus because the organization is a group of affiliate and accredited colleges. For more information regarding this matter, you may wish to contact the City of Columbus Public Safety Department License Section Charitable Solicitation Board. The organization has stated that its purpose is to solicit corporations and foundations for charitable contributions which are distributed to OFIC member colleges/universities to benefit their operating budgets, provide scholarships, and for program assistance. OFIC reports that its methods of fundraising include personal contacts, and telephone solications and direct mail solicitations including campaigns scheduled at various times in the Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Mahoning Valley, Mansfield, Mt. Vernon, NW Ohio, SE Ohio and Toledo, Ohio, areas, during which area business men and women will call on businesses and foundations in conjunction with representatives of OFIC and its member colleges/universities. OFIC has stated that donations go to its charitable cause or purpose, and to member colleges, and that scholarship administration fees cover the operating costs of OFIC.
