According to the United States Bankruptcy Court District of Delaware, Sun Television and Appliances filed for Chapter 11 protection under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code on September 16, 1998. The firm decided to liquidate under Chapter 7 protection under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, after efforts to reorganize were unsuccessful. Sun TV went out of business. All stores were closed by 1999. Consumers with extended service contracts not owned by Sun TV but owned by a third party, may wish to contact the third party directly. The extended service contract agreement should identify whether the owner was SUN TV or a third party company. The Elmhurst, Illinois office of Beneficial Finance, a Household International Company, confirmed on 7/17/01 that consumers who financed purchases from Sun TV with Beneficial Credit Services but never took delivery of the merchandise will not be held liable for payment. Additionally, consumers who have outstanding warranties with Sun TV on merchandise financed through Beneficial will be able to obtain warranty service through Beneficial. Any consumer who wishes to dispute charges for merchandise not received, or who needs warranty service, should contact the Beneficial office holding the financing agreement. Consumers need to provide the following as proof of purchase from Sun TV; the financing agreement with Beneficial and a copy of the outstanding warranty agreement if applicable. Beneficial also stated they cannot assist consumers who financed purchases elsewhere. If another finance company was involved, consumers may wish to directly contact the other finance company involved in their purchase.
