Complaint: I have a moving company that I am working with who is trying to charge me more than what they quoted. He muscled me into agreeing to more charges than quote because he was holding my goodS hostage. He quoted me $2800,and so far I paid $3095. I do not want him charging me more!! I want him reported and I want him to honor his original quote. Its not my fault that he had to take goods back up to Ohio, he could have found a storage unit in knoxville and not muscled me for an additional $2K. Please help him honor the original agreement. thanks
Desired Settlement: FOR HIM TO DROP THE REMAINING $2000 AND FOR HIM TO SHIP ME MY 2 REMAINING BOXES THAT HES HOLDING HOSTAGE. THANKS
Business Response: Please refer to my response in case 70096507. Mr. (****) was never strong armed into anything. We gave the customer a written estimate for $3444.71 which he signed agreeing to loading Sept 24th and delivery of his belongings to Knoxville, TN on Oct. 1, 2011. The actual charges only came to $2805.83. We attempted delivery on Oct. 1, 2011 but the customer was unable to pay the charges. We are required to secure the belongings until payment can be made. We are under no obligation to rent a storage unit at our expense nor do I feel that this option would be safe. We opted to bring the furniture to our Reynoldsburg, OH warehouse. We offered to waive all storage fees temporarily and allow the customer to pick up their belongings, or hire someone to pick them up, once the $2805.83 was paid. If they wanted us to deliver again to Knoxville we offered to do it for an additional $2000. We eventually agreed to make the 2nd delivery and Mr. (****) agreed in writing to pay $3095.83 upon delivery and make 2 payments of $1000 each on Nov. 9th and Nov. 18th on his credit cards. Unfortunately, the Nov. 9th payment was not made but instead on Nov. 10th he filed this complaint instead. Go figure?
Consumer Response: he did strong arm me. he would not deliver the goods till i paid him more $. he made a bad decision to take the goods back to ohio, which did not make any sense whatsoeever. there was plenty of storage units nearby knoxville and near the house where he could have placed the goods. instead, because he made a bad decision to take them back to ohio, i have to pay more. i want the $2000 dropped asap!!!or I will report to the ohio state attorney generals office. thanks
Business Response: Placing the goods into a licensed mover's warehouse is the only acceptable way of storing goods due to non-payment. Since delivery was scheduled for a Saturday this was not an option in Knoxville. In addition, the costs for warehouse handling, storage and re-delivery would have actually been higher at another warehouse than what we charged to hold the goods in Ohio without a storage fee and re-deliver. Taking the goods to a self storage unit at our expense and liability is not an acceptable option. The customer could have then claimed that we would be responsible for traveling to Knoxville, getting the goods from storage and taking it to his house, and he might be right.
BBB's Final Determination: After reviewing the position of all parties, BBB determined that the business made a reasonable effort to address the complaint. However the consumer remains dissatisfied.
